President Akufo-Addo has directed the Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Colonel Kwadwo Damoah to hand over his duties.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The directive took effect on Friday, August 26, 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The order was contained in a letter from the Presidency signed by the President\u2019s Executive Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante. <\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing the expiration of your contract of service as Commissioner (Custom Division) of the Ghana Revenue Authority on October 13, 2021, the President of the Republic has directed that effective Friday, August 26, 2022, you hand over your duties and office to the acting Deputy Commissioner (Preventive Service), Seidu Iddrisu Iddisah, who will act as the Commissioner (Customs Division) pending the President\u2019s substantive appointment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd) over the recent\u00a0weeks has been in the news following the Special Prosecutor\u2019s work regarding a foreign food importing , Labianca, which suggested alleged irregularity at the port.<\/p>\n

The report concluded that the owner of Labianca had taken advantage of her position as a Board member of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at the time to get favours for her .<\/p>\n

The Special Prosecutor recovered an amount of GH\u00a21.074 million from the whose owner doubles as a member of the Council of State, Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh.<\/p>\n

A Deputy Commissioner of Customs in charge of Operations, Joseph Adu Kyei was also cited by the OSP for issuing what it described as an unlawful customs advance ruling.<\/p>\n

This, according to the report, reduced the benchmark values of the goods imported by Labianca Limited translating to reduced tax obligations of the to the state.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Customs Division Management retreat at Kumasi, Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd) insisted the report of the Special Prosecutor was released with malicious intent.<\/p>\n

Col Damoah (Rtd) said it was meant to discredit the Customs officers adding that the OSP \u201cis trying to indict the deputy and myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, it\u2019s unclear if the President\u2019s directive has anything to do with this.<\/p>\n
