And it\u2019s all things that at the time cause a huge kind of [gasp]. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re taking this away from us. And for me as a British civil servant, the taxpayer shouldn\u2019t be buying my coffee and tea,\u201d she said in a yet-to-be aired edition of <strong>JoyNews<\/strong>\u2018 The Probe with Emefa Apawu.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" scrolling=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1331748022&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=false&#038;show_comments=true&#038;show_user=true&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=true&#038;visual=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s current financial situation is not looking good. Despite the local currency being one of the worst-performing after Sri Lanka, the cost of living is skyrocketing.<\/p>\n<p>Government is currently at the doors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) engaging over possible assistance to prevent the economy from crashing further.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>These developments have been compounded by a recent creditworthiness downgrade by rating agencies S&#038;P and Fitch.<\/p>\n<p>According to S&#038;P, the downgrade is due to intensifying financing and external pressures on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced some expenditure-cutting measures that will ensure the achievement of the fiscal deficit target of 7.4 per cent of GDP for 2022.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>Speaking to Emefa Apawu, the High Commissioner believes that more needs to be done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m saying that really looking at the cost of government is an important place to start  because people need to see that we are in this together and that the pain that is sadly undoubtedly going to remain for a while, as well as the world, comes through these economic challenges.
