This compelled the pupils to step on rocks in the stream to get to the other side of the town to access formal education.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Pupil-cross-storm-drain-to-access-education-11-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"JoyNews gets results: Tema West Assembly constructs footbridge over stream at Borteyman\" class=\"wp-image-10032144387\"   title=\"JoyNews gets results: Tema West Assembly constructs footbridge over stream at Borteyman\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><strong>JoyNews\u2019<\/strong> Kojo Brace in his report revealed that at least three children have drowned in the stream due to the unavailability of a bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Struck by the report, the Tema West Municipal Assembly decided to construct a footbridge over the stream to avert further drowning incidents.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/pupils-in-borteyman-risk-their-lives-through-storm-drain-to-access-education\/<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>JoyNews<\/strong>, the Municipal Chief Executive, Anna Adukwei Addo, said her outfit had initially planned to construct a wooden bridge as a short-term measure.<\/p>\n<p>However, she noted that a concrete bridge is more sustainable and safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe municipal engineers advised that we do undertake a permanent solution so we decided to construct a concrete footbridge for the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a 25-span footbridge with a three-meter access ramp, we decided not to use steps because we have to provide for persons with disability,\u201d she told <strong>JoyNews\u2019<\/strong> Kojo Brace.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Pupil-cross-storm-drain-to-access-education-12-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"JoyNews gets results: Tema West Assembly constructs footbridge over stream at Borteyman\" class=\"wp-image-10032144386\"   title=\"JoyNews gets results: Tema West Assembly constructs footbridge over stream at Borteyman\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Madam Addo further envisaged that the project will be ready before schools reopen in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have done 12 days so far and this is the development so far.
