{"id":1188599,"date":"2022-08-24T08:25:45","date_gmt":"2022-08-24T08:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/24\/osps-influence-peddling-report-about-our-ceo-is-false-labianca\/"},"modified":"2022-08-24T08:25:45","modified_gmt":"2022-08-24T08:25:45","slug":"osps-influence-peddling-report-about-our-ceo-is-false-labianca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/24\/osps-influence-peddling-report-about-our-ceo-is-false-labianca\/","title":{"rendered":"OSP\u2019s \u2018influence-peddling\u2019 report about our CEO is false &#8211; Labianca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\" style=\"line-height: 2; letter-spacing: -0.5px;font-size: 18px;\">\n<p>                        <!--p class=\"ky_saved_articles_link\"><span class=\"ky_saved_articles_hide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\" class=\"ky_saved_articles_img\" alt=\"OSP\u2019s \u2018influence-peddling\u2019 report about our CEO is false - Labianca\" title=\"OSP\u2019s \u2018influence-peddling\u2019 report about our CEO is false - Labianca\"><\/span> Bookmark<\/p-->\n<p>The Labianca Company Limited has disagreed with the influence-peddling report issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) against its Chief Executive.<\/p>\n<p>According to the , the OSP\u2019s comment against its CEO is untrue and should be ignored.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe deny that the  and its CEO, Mrs Asomah-Hinneh, procured customs advance ruling through influence peddling or trading of influence,\u201d it said in a press release issued on Wednesday, August 24.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"811\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/86C7FB69-638F-439C-974B-9C4B3F23AC31-811x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"OSP\u2019s \u2018influence-peddling\u2019 report about our CEO is false - Labianca\" class=\"wp-image-10032157506\"   title=\"OSP\u2019s \u2018influence-peddling\u2019 report about our CEO is false - Labianca\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Even though, the Company also said, the OSP has not written to it officially, it has instructed its lawyers to take up the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take the findings of the Office of the Special Prosecutor seriously and have consequently instructed our lawyers to take the necessary action on this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Background\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On August 8, 2022, the OSP published an investigative report which revealed that Labianca Group of Companies, a frozen foods  owned by a member of the Council of State, Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh, evaded import duties.<\/p>\n<p>He recovered an amount of \u00a21.074 million representing a shortfall in import duties paid to the state.<\/p>\n<p>The report signed by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, alleged that the influence-peddling by Ms Asomah-Hinneh led to a reduction in the tax liabilities for her frozen foods , Labianca Company Limited.<\/p>\n<p>The OSP contended that Ms Asomah-Hinneh used her position as a member of the Council of State and member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to get a favourable decision from the Customs Division.<\/p>\n<p>A Deputy Commissioner of Customs in charge of Operations, Joseph Adu Kyei was also cited by the OSP for issuing what it described as an unlawful customs advance ruling.<\/p>\n<p>This, according to the report, reduced the benchmark values of the goods imported by Labianca Limited translating to reduced tax obligations of the  to the state.<\/p>\n<p>However, Speaking at the Customs Division Management Retreat at Kumasi, the Commissioner of Customs, Col.
