However, \u201cwhen they are made so huge and so extortive at times, then people are made to run away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us not make tax payment a punishment. Let\u2019s make it very important for us to pay, let\u2019s dwell on the advantages of paying taxes rather than intimidating people. It then becomes something like punishment and then people become scared then the tax collectors are looked at like monsters which is not the way to go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1329864166&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=false&#038;show_comments=true&#038;show_user=true&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=true&#038;visual=true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He made these remarks while contributing to discussions at the maiden edition of the National Tax Forum at the Accra International Conference Centre on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/tax-forum-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Affordability is key to compliance in tax payment - GUTA President\" class=\"wp-image-10032157254\"   title=\"Affordability is key to compliance in tax payment - GUTA President\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The Maiden National Tax Forum was held under the theme: \u201cThe Role of Digitalization in Promoting Progressive Property Taxation and Tax Compliance in Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The forum was geared toward improving compliance, promoting efficiency and modernizing systems that will lead to increased domestic revenue collection for funding national developmental growth initiatives.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/tax-forum-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Affordability is key to compliance in tax payment - GUTA President\" class=\"wp-image-10032157259\"   title=\"Affordability is key to compliance in tax payment - GUTA President\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The National Tax Forum also generated healthy tax discourse for academic purposes, intellectual engagements and provide literature for projecting a healthy tax system for Ghana both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>The forum also sought to achieve the goal of contributing to improving corporate and individual tax compliance behavior at the national and sub-national levels.<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the need to pay taxes, Mr. Joseph Obeng enumerated some benefits of paying tax for the country, individuals and entities.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, nonpayment of taxes limits an entity\u2019s scope, persona, adding that \u201cit does not make you grow even as a business entity in the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/orum-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Affordability is key to compliance in tax payment - GUTA President\" class=\"wp-image-10032157261\"   title=\"Affordability is key to compliance in tax payment - GUTA President\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIn the market, people have feared paying tax and they have ever remained where they are because they are always afraid to make people know that they are growing and by so doing they are limited and they stay put where they are,\u201d he explained further.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that tax payment helps to broaden an individual\u2019s business and creates opportunities for partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes you want a partner from abroad\u2026it is the tax that you have paid if the person has to assess your business then you have to first see your tax payment, if it is big then they equate it to how big your business is so there is no need to dodge taxes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the payment of taxes also makes it possible to raise revenue to develop the country.<\/p>\n<p>He cited GUTA\u2019s closure of shops as an example of how they can make demands from the government because they pay taxes.<\/p>\n<p>                <!-- Post Tags --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the Ghana Union of Traders\u2019 Associations (GUTA), has entreated entities responsible for taxation to make it affordable.
