The Education Ministry has justified its decision for the contract extension offered to the Deputy Director of Management Services at the Ghana Education Service, Anthony Boateng.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Ministry said experienced hands are needed for the reforms it is introducing into the sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It insisted without the contract extension for the Deputy DG, the reforms started will be truncated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is according to Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Ministry Of Education, Yaw Opoku Mensah.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr. Mensah added that the government is not obliged to heed to the calls from the teacher unions to reverse same.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWithin this critical period, we need experienced hands like that to be able to ensure that you carry out the reforms that are needed for the betterment of our education system.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWithin the legal provisions and without expertise, nobody within the system questions his ability to finish what we started together,\u201d Mr. Boateng said.<\/p>\n
The decision for Anthony Boateng\u2019s extension was made at the request of the Minister for Education.<\/p>\n
During the period of extension, he will continue his current role and assist in the development of the Ministry\u2019s National Education Institute.<\/p>\n
However, this has generated uproar within the GES.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For instance, the decision has compelled four teacher unions to ask Anthony Boateng to decline the contract extension offered him.<\/p>\n
The unions in a statement issued on Monday, August 22, called on GES to direct all persons past their retirement age to hand over their posts to the next in line.<\/p>\n
