{"id":1187672,"date":"2022-08-23T11:46:32","date_gmt":"2022-08-23T11:46:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/23\/ghana-bags-21-9m-from-coconut-export-in-2021\/"},"modified":"2022-08-23T11:46:32","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T11:46:32","slug":"ghana-bags-21-9m-from-coconut-export-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/23\/ghana-bags-21-9m-from-coconut-export-in-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana bags $21.9m from coconut export in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/coco-696x464.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"coco\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">File photo: Coconut<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s exports of Desiccated Coconut to the world recorded a significant jump of 249% in value in 2021 compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ghana Exports Promotion Center (GEPA), exports stood at $21.985 million in 2021 compared to $6.3 million in 2020 and $3.8 million in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>This ranked the nation 9th in global exports of Desiccated Coconut.<\/p>\n<p>From 2017 to 2021, growth in exports earnings from Desiccated Coconut exported by Ghana averaged 45%.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dominican Republic biggest market for Ghana\u2019s coconut<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dominican Republic was the biggest market for Ghana\u2019s export of Desiccated Coconut in 2021 with a market share of 79%.<\/p>\n<p>Dominican Republic imported $29.31 million worth of Desiccated Coconut from the world in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Its top suppliers were Ghana (59.2%), Guyana (32.6%), Cote d\u2019Ivoire (4.6%), Indonesia (1.5%), and Viet Nam (0.9%).<\/p>\n<p>Dominican Republic\u2019s imports of Desiccated Coconut from Ghana represents 59.2% of the total Desiccated Coconut imported by Dominican Republic from the world.<\/p>\n<p>GEPA said Ghana\u2019s impressive growth and dominant position in the Dominican market should be augmented and used as a platform to launch into other markets in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the current intervention by actors in the country with particular emphasis on GEPA\u2019s supply expansion programs, export of coconut and coconut derivatives is expected to rise considerably<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuyana is Ghana\u2019s biggest competitor in the Dominican Republic market\u201d, it explained.<\/p>\n<p>Guyana had 32.6% of its Desiccated Coconut exports to the Dominican market.<\/p>\n<p>Cote d\u2019Ivoire exported $1.35 million worth of Desiccated Coconut to the Dominican market.<\/p>\n<p>Its market destinations included Dominican Republic (45%), Senegal (14.8%), Niger (12.7%) and Israel (8.9%).<\/p>\n<p>Philippines, the largest global exporter of Desiccated Coconut had its exports valued at $397million in 2021.
