In order to win the 2016 elections, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo may have overpromised Ghanaians, according to an assistant to former President John Dramani Mahama. Prof. Stephen Adei, a former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, GIMPA, said that the president had overpromised.<\/p>\n
In response to the professor’s assessment of Akufo-pledges, Addo’s a former deputy minister named James Agyenim-Boateng wrote on Facebook: “He also over spent and under delivered.” Government has been entrusted with reducing spending as a result of the economic crisis that has forced it to turn to the International Monetary Fund, or IMF.<\/p>\n
What Professor Adei said: Speaking to Accra-based Asaase Radio on August 17, Professor Adei lamented the national development plan’s lack of priority over party manifestos for development. He asserts that Ghana’s misfortunes over the past few years may have been caused by the use of the party manifesto.<\/p>\n

He singled out President Akufo-Addo and accused him of making unwarranted promises. He supported his claim with examples of initiatives listed by President Akufo-Addo, Free SHS and One District – One Factory.<\/p>\n
And according to me, in 2024 economists, journalists, and others will gather to examine manifestos and determine their viability by examining whether or not governments will commit to implementing them. For instance, Professor Adei said, “I believe Akufo-Addo overpromised and should have amended himself to say that we are going to sequence.<\/p>\n
President Akufo-Addo responded, “I do not think necessarily,” when asked if it would not have damaged his run for reelection. When you arrive and state that this is what we intended to accomplish.<\/p>\n
