Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen says he has received 300-400 abusive messages on Instagram after he was involved in an incident that saw Liverpool\u2019s Darwin Nunez sent off.<\/p>\n
Nunez was shown a\u00a0red card after 57 minutes of Monday\u2019s 1-1 draw\u00a0when he reacted to a shove from Andersen with a headbutt that floored the Dane.<\/p>\n
Andersen posted examples of the abuse, some of which included death threats.<\/p>\n
He has called on Instagram and the Premier League to act.<\/p>\n
\u201cGot maybe 3-400 of these messages last night,\u201d the 26-year-old said. \u201cI understand you support a team but have some respect and stop acting tough online.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cHope Instagram and the Premier League do something about this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Palace are set to speak to Andersen to offer support. BBC Sport<\/em><\/strong> understands the player is fine but felt \u201cenough was enough\u201d and had to speak up about the abuse.<\/p>\n It is also understood one of the people who sent him an abusive message has reached out to apologise, saying he had sent it when \u201cvery drunk\u201d and now felt \u201cso stupid and was very sorry\u201d.<\/p>\n A Premier League spokesman confirmed the governing body had also been in touch with Palace to offer help.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Meta, the owners of Instagram and Facebook, said: \u201cWe have strict rules against bullying and harassment and we are in direct contact with Joachim\u2019s team on the issue.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause DMs are private spaces, we don\u2019t proactively look for hate speech or bullying in the same way we do in other places, and we need someone to report the message in app before we can take action.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one thing will fix this challenge overnight, but we\u2019re continuing our work with the industry and Government to help keep our community safe from abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n In June it was announced that people convicted of football-related online hate crime\u00a0can now receive banning orders\u00a0that stop them from attending matches.<\/p>\n A 2021\u00a0PFA study\u00a0found 44% of Premier League players received abuse online.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n \n\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen says he has received 300-400 abusive messages on Instagram after he was involved in an incident that saw Liverpool\u2019s Darwin Nunez sent off.
