{"id":1178577,"date":"2022-08-15T13:08:10","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T13:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/15\/russia-reopens-bond-market-to-friendly-traders\/"},"modified":"2022-08-15T13:08:10","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T13:08:10","slug":"russia-reopens-bond-market-to-friendly-traders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/15\/russia-reopens-bond-market-to-friendly-traders\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia reopens bond market to friendly traders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"391\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Russia-reopens-bond-market-696x391.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Russia reopens bond market \/ Credit: ALAMY\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Russia reopens bond market \/ Credit: ALAMY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Moscow Exchange will be partially reopened to foreign investors from Monday after a nearly six-month suspension during the Ukraine war.<\/p>\n<p>It says only investors from \u201ccountries that are not hostile\u201d will be allowed to trade bonds.<\/p>\n<p>The move excludes many of Russia\u2019s largest investors that have imposed sanctions on its economy.<\/p>\n<p>Russia had sealed off its markets in February to restrict money from leaving the country during the war.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>In a statement,\u00a0the Moscow Exchange said it would be reopening its bond market to \u201cnon-resident clients from countries that are not hostile, as well as non-residents whose ultimate beneficiaries are Russian legal entities or individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO READ:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>China and Turkey are likely to be among these nations, as they have not imposed sanctions against Russia.<\/p>\n<p>It added that banks, brokers and investment management companies had started registering their foreign clients with the exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Russia closed its stock and bond markets hours after President Vladimir Putin sent thousands of troops into Ukraine on 24 February.<\/p>\n<p>In March, it began\u00a0a phased re-opening\u00a0which was limited to bonds issued by the Russian government.<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s resumption of trading excludes investors from \u201chostile\u201d countries, who remain banned from selling Russian securities.<\/p>\n<p>These countries include members of the European Union, Canada and Japan.
