One of the co-founders of Afrochella, Edward Asafu Adjaye, has been directed to step down from his leadership role and responsibilities effective immediately.<\/p>\n
This comes after numerous sexual assault allegations were levelled against him by some people on social media.<\/p>\n
On a Twitter Space on August 10 some of his alleged victims claimed Edward, popularly known as Deezy, sent them inappropriate and unsolicited nude pictures adding that he blocks them when they do not respond positively to his advances.<\/p>\n
Following the spaces, many users called for the dismissal of Deezy from Afrochella and all its future events.<\/p>\n
In a press statement shared on August 13, Culture Management Group the parent company of Afrochella noted that they do not take kindly to any form of harassment, discrimination or violence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not support misconduct toward women and assure you that we\u2019re reviewing all materials related to these recent claims. Within the next few days, we will share our resolution and path forward with respect to our community and in alignment with our zero-tolerance policy,\u201d they noted.<\/p>\n
\nThe company added that \u201cas we conduct our internal review, Edward (Deezy) Asafu Adjaye will be stepping down from his leadership position and responsibilities at Afrochella effective immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement explained that the team is dedicated to providing inclusive and safe event experiences and hence takes all forms of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour very seriously.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, some people are reacting to the press statement with many hoping to see more action taken by the Afrochella organisers.<\/p>\n
Some people have also directed the general public to be patient amid the allegations and desist from attacking the Afrochella brand because of one person\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n
\nSo a brand and event that promotes a whole country and helps others make some money, should be shut down cus one deezy guy misbehaved? Why not direct the anger to him and not Afrochella?<\/p>\n
