{"id":1178188,"date":"2022-08-15T07:59:34","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T07:59:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/15\/zambias-dingindaba-jonah-buyoya-wins-bbc-news-komla-dumor-award\/"},"modified":"2022-08-15T07:59:34","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T07:59:34","slug":"zambias-dingindaba-jonah-buyoya-wins-bbc-news-komla-dumor-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/15\/zambias-dingindaba-jonah-buyoya-wins-bbc-news-komla-dumor-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Zambia&#8217;s Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya wins BBC News Komla Dumor award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\" style=\"line-height: 2; letter-spacing: -0.5px;font-size: 18px;\">\n<p>                        <!--p class=\"ky_saved_articles_link\"><span class=\"ky_saved_articles_hide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\" class=\"ky_saved_articles_img\" alt=\"Zambia's Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya wins BBC News Komla Dumor award\" title=\"Zambia's Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya wins BBC News Komla Dumor award\"><\/span> Bookmark<\/p-->\n<p>Zambian TV and radio presenter, Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya has won the 2022 BBC News Komla Dumor Award.<\/p>\n<p>At 25, Buyoya is the youngest recipient of the award, launched in 2015, and the first of the seven winners so far from southern Africa.<\/p>\n<p>He is currently a TV host and reporter with Diamond Television in Zambia, where he started work five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Buyoya follows in the footsteps of Victoria Rubadiri, Solomon Serwanjja, Waihiga Mwaura, Amina Yuguda, Didi Akinyelure and Nancy Kacungira.<\/p>\n<p>The runner-up for this year\u2019s prize is Ivory Coast\u2019s Lindsay Aida Guei, who presents her own talk show on Canal+ Elles, an Africa-focused TV channel.<\/p>\n<p>The Zambian reporter will spend three months working with BBC News teams in London across TV, radio and online. He will also receive training and be mentored by leading BBC journalists.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the placement, he will travel to a country in Africa to report on a story that will be broadcast to the BBC\u2019s global audiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinding out I\u2019d won the BBC News Komla Dumor Award is one of the best things to have happened in my life,\u201d Buyoya says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a huge admiration for Komla\u2019s prodigious work. I\u2019ve always wanted to be a journalist and I\u2019d watch back Komla\u2019s news reports, inspired by his powerful storytelling and his dedication to covering Africa authentically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m truly grateful to be part of Komla\u2019s legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judges praised Buyoya for his journalism, his charisma and his passion for sharing stories about the continent through digital platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to welcoming Buyoya to BBC News.
