This was when he paid courtesy calls on the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru, the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayibontey, Sempe Mantse, Nii Adote Otintor, Nii Ahene Nunoo III, Abola Mantse and the Asere\u00a0 Mantse, Nii Nikoi Olai Amashi II<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Sempe Manstr palace, an excited Bawumia said \u201cit is a beautiful festival and our Chiefs are the custodians of our tradition and this is why on behalf of the government and our party, I\u2019m here to pay homage to all the key chiefs in the Ga state.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-08-14-at-1.54.25-PM-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\" class=\"wp-image-10032152091\"   title=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>He encouraged the traditional leadership headed by the Sempe Mantse to keep up with the good initiatives being undertaken in the area, with a pledge to be a partner in that regard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease continue to do all the things you\u2019re doing to develop the Ga state. I want to assure you that we will be by your side to support you to continue to do the good work for the Ga state\u201d, Dr. Bawumia pledged.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-08-14-at-1.54.24-PM-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\" class=\"wp-image-10032152092\"   title=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>He gave meaning to that pledge by making a cash donation to support the reconstruction of the Sempe Mantse\u2019s palace, and also presented assorted drinks to support the festivities.<br \/>The occasion was also graced by the National chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and some members of the Diplomatic Corps.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional priest of Sempe later prayed for the Vice President, asking God to grant his heart\u2019s desires.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Homowo<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-08-14-at-1.54.23-PM-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\" class=\"wp-image-10032152094\"   title=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The Ga people celebrate Homowo which is translated as \u2018hooting at hunger\u2019 in remembrance of a devastating\u00a0famine\u00a0arising from a drought that occurred in their history in precolonial Ghana. The\u00a0festival\u00a0starts in the month of August with the planting of crops (mainly\u00a0maize\u00a0and\u00a0yam) before the\u00a0rainy season\u00a0starts.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"762\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-08-14-at-1.54.20-PM-1024x762.jpeg\" alt=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\" class=\"wp-image-10032152095\"   title=\"Homowo is a beautiful festival \u2013 Bawumia\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>During this period, noise making is prohibited or banned since it is believed that it will hinder the maturity of the crops.<br \/>Even though it is a Ga traditional festival, many other ethnic groups also partake in the celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>                <!-- Post Tags --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was left impressed when he joined the chiefs and people of Ga Mashie (British Accra) to celebrate the Homowo festival over the weekend.
