The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare has disclosed police informants are making thousands of cedis out of \u201cauthentic\u201d clues to the police service.<\/p>\n

At a lecture on Policing at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he noted that there is a pool of persons acting as informants to the Ghana Police Service and on a \u201cpayroll\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dampare said the service has a \u201ccultivation of informants across the country\u201d.<\/p>\n

On how it worked, he explained when an informant\u2019s information is found to be authentic through operationalisation, the informant is paid between GHc1000 and GHC50,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause that is how we are committed to protecting you. If I\u2019m to tell you the people on that payroll, maybe you will take it as a second job. These are all the things we are doing to keep you safe\u201d, he justified.<\/p>\n

The IGP said this forms part of the Scientific Intelligence-led policing strategy the Service has adopted in fighting crimes in society.<\/p>\n
