{"id":1171602,"date":"2022-08-09T12:43:33","date_gmt":"2022-08-09T12:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/09\/finance-minister-revises-imf-financial-package-under-programme-to-3-billion\/"},"modified":"2022-08-09T12:43:33","modified_gmt":"2022-08-09T12:43:33","slug":"finance-minister-revises-imf-financial-package-under-programme-to-3-billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/09\/finance-minister-revises-imf-financial-package-under-programme-to-3-billion\/","title":{"rendered":"Finance Minister revises IMF financial package under programme to $3 billion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\" style=\"line-height: 2; letter-spacing: -0.5px;font-size: 18px;\">\n<p>                        <!--p class=\"ky_saved_articles_link\"><span class=\"ky_saved_articles_hide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\" class=\"ky_saved_articles_img\" alt=\"Finance Minister revises IMF financial package under programme to $3 billion\" title=\"Finance Minister revises IMF financial package under programme to $3 billion\"><\/span> Bookmark<\/p-->\n<p>Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that Ghana could get about $3 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the programme.<\/p>\n<p>This is higher than the initial one billion dollars disclosed by the Finance Minister to Bloomberg News in July 2022 when the IMF team paid a visit to Accra as part of their economic data gathering exercise.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Finance Minister, the revised projection has been influenced by recent developments in the economy regarding economic growth and Ghana\u2019s drawing rights at the IMF.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Ghana\u2019s domestic program<\/strong>me<\/p>\n<p>The Finance Minister has also disclosed that Government is hoping to complete work on its Enhanced Domestic Programme by the end of September this year, which will form the basis for negotiating a program with IMF .<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"H63LRX4wwdw\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"PM Business with George Wiafe: Stabilizing the economy post-mid-year review\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/H63LRX4wwdw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta revealed that government is optimistic of securing a program with the IMF next year , as it pushes to finalise work on its Enhance Domestic Programme this summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focus of Ghana\u2019s Programme with IMF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IMF has indicated that the focus of Ghana\u2019s programme with the Fund, will look at Debt Sustainability\u00a0 and how to restore Macro-Economic Stability and Support the credibility\u00a0of government policies, as well as restore confidence in Central Bank\u2019s ability to manage Inflation.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking on PM EXPRESS BUSINES Edition with Host, George Wiafe, the Finance Minister disclosed\u00a0 that \u201c programmes usually take about six months to be negotiated, but discussions for Balance of Payment support has already\u00a0 started\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thinking of a three year program possibly, hopping that IMF programme reforms will be completed in 2 years\u201d the minister added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eurobond and IMF program<\/strong>me<\/p>\n<p>The minister also disclosed that, they will be tapping into the Eurobond Market, after Ghana is able to close a deal with the IMF. This will make up the funding shortfalls for the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The minister also revealed that closing the IMF programme quickly will also help restore investor confidence in the economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revenue mobilisation and checking fiscal slippage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Government over the years has struggled in hitting its revenue target and checking Budget overruns, but Mr. Ofori-Atta has assured that government is hoping to rely heavily on the GIFMIS programme to scrutinize all expenditure over the next five months. <\/p>\n<p>The minister maintained that his will help restore confidence in the economy as government takes some of the fiscal measures for the next five months.<\/p>\n<p>Government has revised the Total Revenue as well as expected money grants.<\/p>\n<p>Total Expenditure, (Including Payments for the clearance of arrears) has been also revised downward to\u00a0 \u00a2135 billion, from the original  projection of \u00a2137 billion cedis.<\/p>\n<p>This will result in fiscal deficit on cash basis of \u00a238 billion, representing 6.6% of the revised GDP.<\/p>\n<p>                <!-- Post Tags --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that Ghana could get about $3 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the programme.
