{"id":1170466,"date":"2022-08-08T13:00:52","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T13:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/08\/cedi-depreciation-getting-out-of-hand-guta-cries\/"},"modified":"2022-08-08T13:00:52","modified_gmt":"2022-08-08T13:00:52","slug":"cedi-depreciation-getting-out-of-hand-guta-cries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/08\/cedi-depreciation-getting-out-of-hand-guta-cries\/","title":{"rendered":"Cedi depreciation getting out of hand \u2013 GUTA cries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"442\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/mini_GUTA-696x442.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"GUTA President\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Joseph Obeng<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has raised an alarm over plummeting cedi value and its effect on businesses.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, GUTA stated that \u201cthe depreciation of the cedi against other major trading currencies is getting out of hand, and the increase in the monetary policy rate is also leading to high lending rate in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to GUTA, as a result of the depreciation, businesses have reached a situation where their survival is seriously threatened if no immediate action is taken by the government to find a solution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could be recalled that since December 2021 when the dollar was 6.4 cedis, our working capitals were depleted by 40%.
