National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor is calling for reforms in Ghana\u2019s Legal Education.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He says the General Legal Council (GLS), the body in charge of Legal Education in Ghana, is becoming an inhibitor to expanding access to legal education in the country and that only a Parliamentary reform will stop the GLC from damaging the image of the country\u2019s enviable legal education.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a tweet, The MP says \u201cthe GLC has become a poster-boy of multiple legal sclerosis now badly hurting Ghana\u2019s once-fine Legal-Education image. Parliamentary Reform is the only Answer to this malady & cure it, we shall\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Dafeamwkpor, who is a Lawyer by training, was reacting to a decision by the GLS not to disclose the pass mark for this year\u2019s entrance examination into the Ghana School of Law (GSL).<\/span><\/p>\n

The General Legal Council also asked the candidates to sign an undertaking not to challenge the results.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many people lawyers, law students and some civil society organizations have criticized the GLC for taking such a decision, describing it as a setback for the development of legal education in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Kwaku Azar, one of the key figures who has been at the forefront of the growing calls for reforms in Ghana\u2019s Legal Education, has also criticized the GLC for its latest actions.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has always maintained that legal education should be made accessible to all who are willing and able to study law.<\/span><\/p>\n
