{"id":1166810,"date":"2022-08-04T21:25:51","date_gmt":"2022-08-04T21:25:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/04\/we-have-zero-tolerance-policy-on-sexual-harassment-rape-knust-pro\/"},"modified":"2022-08-04T21:25:51","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T21:25:51","slug":"we-have-zero-tolerance-policy-on-sexual-harassment-rape-knust-pro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/08\/04\/we-have-zero-tolerance-policy-on-sexual-harassment-rape-knust-pro\/","title":{"rendered":"We have zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment, rape \u2013 KNUST PRO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\" style=\"line-height: 2; letter-spacing: -0.5px;font-size: 18px;\">\n<p>                        <!--p class=\"ky_saved_articles_link\"><span class=\"ky_saved_articles_hide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\" class=\"ky_saved_articles_img\" alt=\"We have zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment, rape \u2013 KNUST PRO\" title=\"We have zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment, rape \u2013 KNUST PRO\"><\/span> Bookmark<\/p-->\n<p>The Public Relations Officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe says the University has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and rape.<\/p>\n<p>This comes in the wake of two rape cases reported in the University in the course of the week. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking in an interview on <strong>Joy FM\u2019s News Night<\/strong> he said once a report of such nature is received by authorities, \u201cWe report the culprit to the Police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this case, those people have been handed over to the Police and so we are waiting for the court to do its work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1318094446&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=false&#038;show_comments=true&#038;show_user=true&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=true&#038;visual=true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He added that, \u201conce the court completes its work, we will take disciplinary measures against those found culpable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bekoe said although some measures are in place to prevent such occurrences from happening \u201coccasionally you will hear some of these cases happening.\u201d This, he said is because not all students reside on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a student population of about 85,000 but 30% of these students are on campus while we have about almost 70% off campus,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>He did, however, mention that education has been stepped up in the University to guarantee the safety of female students by ensuring they do not wade into areas of risk, despite the fact that they also play a role.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Dr. Bekoe says the victims of the alleged rape cases are undergoing counseling sessions.<\/p>\n<p>He added that they also underwent medical treatment and they are doing well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t say they are completely fine but they are normal and going about their daily activities,\u201d the PRO said.<\/p>\n<p>                <!-- Post Tags --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Relations Officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe says the University has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and rape.
