Prominent Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere Darko is advocating for the legalization and commercialisation of Indian hemp, also known as \u201cWee\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n Gabby believes this will boost the country’s economic fortunes, if accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n In a series of tweets yesterday, Gabby Otchere-Darko, who is also the nephew of President Akufo-Addo, vent his disappointment in the ruling of the Supreme Court which said the law on license to grow cannabis in small-scale quantities for industrial and medicinal purposes in the country is unconstitutional.<\/span><\/p>\n On July 28, the Supreme Court in a 4-3 majority decision ruled that it was unconstitutional for a section of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019) to allow for a license to be granted for the cultivation of small quantities of cannabis for industrial and medicinal use.<\/span><\/p>\n Gabby however said he is hopeful the decision will be reversed at the court when the case is reviewed.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cA disappointing decision in my view and I\u2019m not alone. Thankfully, it was a 4, 3 split decision. We hope and should be confident that a review application, if filed, will be successful. The issue about commercializing cannabis for good use is epochal\u201d, he tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s however important to note that the court did not make a moral pronouncements on cannabis but had a procedural issue with the application of the law in conformity with the constitution\u201d, he said<\/span><\/p>\n This is the second time Gabby is talking about the need to legalize and commercialize cannabis on twitter.
