{"id":1161329,"date":"2022-07-28T22:20:47","date_gmt":"2022-07-28T22:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/28\/minority-asked-that-akufo-addo-instruct-ursula-owusu-to-extend-the-deadline-for-sim-card-re-regist\/"},"modified":"2022-07-28T22:20:47","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T22:20:47","slug":"minority-asked-that-akufo-addo-instruct-ursula-owusu-to-extend-the-deadline-for-sim-card-re-regist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/28\/minority-asked-that-akufo-addo-instruct-ursula-owusu-to-extend-the-deadline-for-sim-card-re-regist\/","title":{"rendered":"Minority asked that Akufo-Addo instruct Ursula Owusu to extend the deadline for SIM card re-regist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<article>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/0cee307f49ec4addb507ebc0ccb3ac94\"\/>The Minority Group in Parliament has just this evening urged that President Akufo-Addo direct Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalization, to extend the deadline for the SIM card re-registration exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline, which is set for July 31, &#8220;holds potential national security implications for millions of Ghanaians who have not been able to register, due to no fault of their own,&#8221; said Sam George, deputy ranking member on the communications committee, in a statement to the media.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/50740d79c1524aa0ad2d426e97005bc5\"\/><\/p>\n<p>He continued, &#8220;We implore the President and the Minister of National Security to take cognizance of the fact that millions of Ghanaians earn a living by using their SIM cards on a daily basis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group claims that after engaging with the communication minister unsuccessfully, they turned to calling on the president.<\/p>\n<p>Although their calls have not been answered, Mr. George stated that &#8220;we would resist, using all lawful methods at our disposal, any attempt to deprive our citizens and constituents of the use of their SIM cards beginning August 1st as a result of this malicious, ill-intended, capricious, obnoxious, atrocious, and whimsical directive of the Minister of Communications and Digitalization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Group also urged the National Communications Authority to demonstrate their competence and technical abilities by notifying the sector minister of her actions&#8217; improper behavior.<\/p>\n<p>The Ningo-Prampram MP went on to assure the telecom companies that the Minority will &#8220;continue to use all means available to us and Parliament to ensure that their operations are not impacted by poor policy decisions made by those in charge today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We want to reassure the telecom companies operating in our jurisdiction that we, as a minority, are concerned about their well-being and operations, because anything that affects their operations affects their constituents,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>MTN Ghana, a global leader in telecommunications, has started a plan to re-register millions of its customers as the SIM registration drive comes to an end at the end of July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for reading this article.
