{"id":1156016,"date":"2022-07-22T12:40:13","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T12:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/22\/ghana-places-third-in-women-business-ownership\/"},"modified":"2022-07-22T12:40:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T12:40:13","slug":"ghana-places-third-in-women-business-ownership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/22\/ghana-places-third-in-women-business-ownership\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana places third in women business ownership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Ho, Jul 22, GNA &#8211; Ghana placed third with Botswana leading the pact and followed by Uganda to the second, as the countries with the most women business owners globally.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/1.21531374.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The research indicates women entrepreneurs in Africa are resilient and adaptable.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The 2021 Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs (MIWE) has, for the third consecutive year, ranked Botswana (38.5%), Uganda (38.4%) and Ghana (37.2%) as the countries with the most women business owners globally, according to its release copied to the Ghana News Agency.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The Index\u2019s benchmark indicator is calculated as a percentage of total business owners.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">This, according to the study copied to the Ghana News Agency, is the fifth edition of the MIWE, which puts the spotlight on the significant socio-economic contribution of women entrepreneurs around the world, including Africa, and provides insights on the factors driving and inhibiting their advancement.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">In many African countries, women\u2019s advancement is hampered by less supportive entrepreneurial conditions, a lack of funding, less opportunities for higher-level education, as well as structural barriers.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Botswana, however, scores in the top 15 economies globally in terms of advancement outcomes for women, particularly as far as performance by income is concerned, out-performing high-income and developed economies such as Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Switzerland and Australia.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Botswana also scores highly in MIWE 2021\u2019s \u2018women\u2019s labour force participation rates,\u2019 ranking.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">According to the report, Nigeria, alongside Angola and Ghana, ranked first globally in the Women\u2019s Entrepreneurship Activity Rate in MasterCard Index of Women Entrepreneurs (MIWE) 2021.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Nigeria also ranked second globally for the number of \u2018women professional and technical workers\u2019 at 59.1 per cent, while Angola ranked second globally in hiring intentions with 16.4 per cent of adults planning to employ six or more people in the next.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic and economic downturn, Mastercard\u2019s research indicates that women entrepreneurs in Africa are resilient and adaptable, particularly those in low and middle-income economies, often surpassing men in terms of entrepreneurial activity.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Ebehijie Momoh, Country Manager and Area Business Head for West Africa at MasterCard, congratulated the African countries for their entrepreneurial and SME activities efforts.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He added that \u201cwomen in Botswana, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria and Angola stood out as excellent examples of women\u2019s determination to provide for themselves and their families, despite facing financial, regulatory and technical challenges.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">In these economies, women can leverage on opportunities in their respective environments to be business owners, leaders and professional or technical workers.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">As part of Mastercard\u2019s commitment to creating a world where women entrepreneurs are equally represented and supported, the company made a global commitment to connect 25 million women entrepreneurs to the digital economy by 2025.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Not only will empowering women\u2019s entrepreneurship act as a catalyst for growth and innovation, but it will raise up the communities around successful women and fuel a global recovery that is more equitable and sustainable for everyone.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ho, Jul 22, GNA &#8211; Ghana placed third with Botswana leading the pact and followed by Uganda to the second, as the countries with the most women business owners globally.
