{"id":1154075,"date":"2022-07-20T11:47:47","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T11:47:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/20\/tuc-demands-ssnitoverhaul\/"},"modified":"2022-07-20T11:47:47","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T11:47:47","slug":"tuc-demands-ssnitoverhaul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/20\/tuc-demands-ssnitoverhaul\/","title":{"rendered":"TUC Demands SSNITOverhaul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Dr-Anthony-Yaw-Baah.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>THE TRADES Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana has demanded what it calls a \u201ctotal overhaul\u201d of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) over issues of disparities in the scheme and also low pension premiums paid to public sector retirees.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference in Accra, the union vowed to end what it described as a \u201cclass system\u201d in pay administration in favour of Article 71 office holders, insisting that SSNIT was not functioning as expected by members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the presser, General Secretary of the TUC, Dr. Yaw Baah, indicated that although government had agreed to pay fifteen percent Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to workers on the Single Spine Salary Structure, TUC was determined to work together with other labour unions to end the \u201cunfairness in remuneration\u201d for public sector workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe essence of SSNIT is completely gone. What is social security about people who earn GH\u00a2300? I can assure you that if it wasn\u2019t pushed further to GH\u00a2300, there would still be people who earn less than that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can someone who earns GH\u00a240,000 be paying SSNIT whereas another who earns about GH\u00a2300 be deducted also?\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that, \u201cThe TUC and its affiliates have our eyes and minds firmly fixed on the outcome of the Single Spine Salary Review process currently underway\u201d and \u201care determined to work together with other organised labour groups to end the unfairness in remunerations for public sector workers on the Single Spine Salary Structure on one hand, and Article 71 office holders and State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) on the other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cWe will not allow the class system in pay administration in favour of Article 71 office holders to continue.
