{"id":1150041,"date":"2022-07-15T16:05:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-15T16:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/15\/stop-blaming-ndc-for-your-incompetence-ato-forson-slams-bawumia\/"},"modified":"2022-07-15T16:05:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T16:05:27","slug":"stop-blaming-ndc-for-your-incompetence-ato-forson-slams-bawumia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/15\/stop-blaming-ndc-for-your-incompetence-ato-forson-slams-bawumia\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop blaming NDC for your incompetence \u2013 Ato Forson slams Bawumia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Ato-Forson.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The Minority in Parliament has dismissed claims by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that the National Democratic Congress administration is to blame for the country\u2019s current debt burden, which compelled government to seek support from the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President attributed the pressures of the banking sector clean-up and the energy sector capacity payments to failings by the John Mahama administration that handed over power to the New Patriotic Party government in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bawumia made the comments on Thursday, July 14, 2022, while speaking at the launch of Accra Business School\u2019s IT programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media, Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson called on the Akufo-Addo administration to take responsibility for its mess.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ato Forson referred Dr. Bawumia to his earlier assurances to Ghanaians that the government had put in place adequate measures to prevent a return to the IMF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn April this year, the same Dr. Bawumia, told the whole nation that the Economic Management Team under his chairmanship had put in place adequate measures to prevent the nation from going for an IMF programme. Today, Ghana is back to the IMF not even in good shape, but in dire economic situation. Is this not a spite of the Vice President\u2019s assurance?\u201d he quizzed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">\u201cYou will agree that we are not in normal times<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. Indeed, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">we are<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> in<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> very perilous moments<\/span><span class=\"s4\">; <\/span><span class=\"s4\">we are in uncharted waters<\/span><span class=\"s4\">;<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> there are difficult moments ahead and<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> so,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> what we expect from the head <\/span><span class=\"s4\"> <\/span><span class=\"s4\">of the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Economic Management Team<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is some modicum of<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> respect,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> honesty, integrity, and above all seriousness<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> when it comes to governance and the issue of the economy. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">This is not the time <\/span><span class=\"s4\">for<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> theat<\/span><span class=\"s4\">re<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> comedy,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and obviously not <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the time<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> for IT <\/span><span class=\"s4\">jocular pranks. We are t<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ired <\/span><span class=\"s4\">of the monotonous blame game on former President Mahama.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ato Forson at the press conference said: <span class=\"s5\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Rather than taking responsibility and building consensus to tackle the excruciating and untold hardship<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the people of Ghana are currently facing, Dr. Bawumia rather chose to resort to the frivolous and unsubstantiated blame game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">He advised Dr. Bawumia<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">to accord the office he occupies the respect it deserves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">\u201cThe office of the Vice-President is a serious office and must be treated as such. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">He<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> cannot <\/span><span class=\"s4\">metamorphose <\/span><span class=\"s4\">into a propaganda poster boy, thus serving as a conduit for peddling falsehood<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">\u201cFrom all indications,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the Vice-President president has clearly lost focus, making<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> <\/span><span class=\"s4\">his<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> office<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> look<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> irrelevant while<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> demeaning the standards expected of a Vice-President,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\">Dr. Ato Forson further urged Dr. Bawumia to<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> concentrate on his c<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ore<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> duties as head of the economic team<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">allow the Minister of Information to perform h<\/span><span class=\"s4\">is<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> duties<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> as prescribed by convention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[embedded content]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minority in Parliament has dismissed claims by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that the National Democratic Congress administration is to blame for the country\u2019s current debt burden, which compelled government to seek support from the International Monetary Fund.
