On TV3\u2019s The Big Issue, Murtala Mohammed complained about the neglect of teachers by the Akufo-Addo government. Sylvester Tetteh, MP for Bortianor and an NPP noted that the NDC are today lambasting the Akufo-Addo government forgetting the NDC did worse. \u201cTeachers were employed and they taught for 3 years without pay under the NDC. Teachers can text into the programme. It became a legacy debt. They were given 3 months\u2019 pay, take or leave instead of 3 years pay,\u201d Murtala insisted that this was a lie and that the NDC never did that under JM.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Berla had been interacting with the Communications Director for Coalition of Concerned CCT, Adokwei Ayikwei Awulley over the 20% COLA grievances. In the end, Berla wanted a clarification to the allegations and counter allegations about teachers working for 3 years without pay so asked Adokwei Ayikwei Awulley, the communications director of CCT to either confirm or refute. In response Awulley confirmed that an incident like this happened under the erstwhile NDC administration<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it was in 2015 we started undertaking measures to clear the arrears. It is true. Some people taught for 3 years and were paid only 3 months. At that time a district director could even employ you as a teacher and this caused a mess up and government came with a directive that no teacher should be paid salary arrears beyond 3 months. This government came to power and has paid a lot of them\u201d Mr. Awulley said.<\/p>\n

This sudden clarification softened the stance of Murtala Mohammed who had been so loud in insisting that the Mahama administration never treated teachers in that manner<\/p>\n
