The Trade Union Congress (TUC), says government gave them 4% salary increment in 2021and 7% in 2022 but wants to know the inflation rate now.<\/span><\/p>\n

The TUC says they will not back down on their demand for the 20% cost of living allowance (COLA) because of what others are saying.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to their Deputy General Secretary, Mr Joshua Ansah, their salaries were increased from 4% to 7% in 2022 but when you compare it to the current inflation rate, they are back to zero.<\/span><\/p>\n

The inflation rate as compared to what they receive as workers at the end of the month is making their cost of living very high and unbearable. He says “Workers are suffering.” <\/span><\/p>\n

In view of this, they are asking the government to do cushion them with the 20% COLA before they talk about their salaries for 2023 because they are suffering.<\/span><\/p>\n

The General Secretary stated “you gave us four percent in 2021, seven percent in 2022, what is the inflation rate now? We are back to zero. So if we are asking 20 percent of COLA to cushion us whiles we negotiate for 2023, why should anyone say it\u2019s a wrong time, then that person is not a Ghanaian. Workers are suffering.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
