{"id":1142618,"date":"2022-07-05T18:56:19","date_gmt":"2022-07-05T18:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/05\/dollar-has-broken-the-eight-ndc-man-mocks-npp\/"},"modified":"2022-07-05T18:56:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T18:56:19","slug":"dollar-has-broken-the-eight-ndc-man-mocks-npp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/05\/dollar-has-broken-the-eight-ndc-man-mocks-npp\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar has broken the eight \u2013 NDC man mocks NPP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"358\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Sam-696x358.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Sam Pee Yalley\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The ruling New Patriotic Party\u2019s (NPP) hope of breaking the eight to retain power in the 2024 general election will remain a dream.<\/p>\n<p>According to a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley, given the current socio-economic conditions in the country, the NPP is already in opposition.<\/p>\n<p>He made the comment while reacting to government\u2019s decision to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF lending to Ghana will be for balance of payments support (i.e. to shore up the international reserves).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Economists have expressed divergent views on Ghana\u2019s 17<sup>th<\/sup> IMF programme with many predicting it would resuscitate the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Others  Professor Steve Hanke, an international economist at John Hopkins University in the United States, believes Ghana\u2019s current IMF program will fail.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking on Adom FM\u2019s morning show,<strong> Dwaso Nsem<\/strong> programme Tuesday, Mr Yalley said the decision to seek IMF bailout is apt.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, Ghana\u2019s economy was heading into an abyss if President Akufo-Addo had not seen reason to seek IMF support.<\/p>\n<p>This notwithstanding, Mr Yalley said the fundamentals of the economy  exchange rate is still weak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNPP saying they want to break the eight but the dollar has broken the eight.
