There have been arguments and counter arguments over whether the Akufo-Addo government was right to send Ghana to the International Monetary Fund. The ruling government had resisted earlier calls to seek help until on Friday a press release indicated a U-Turn from Akufo-Addo and Ken Ofori Atta. This sudden change of plans meant that the opposition were vindicated in their calls to the government.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, the Information Minister and other government appointees have raised the point that the current government has seen 2 major pandemics or global problems and this has pushed them to the feet of the IMF. Government communicators insist that the effects of Covid-19 and the Ukraine-Russian war have been the catalysts. The further insist that unlike them, the NDC had no pandemic and yet still took the country to the IMF.<\/p>\n

Kevin Taylor, a United States based Ghanaian journalist however disagrees with these arguments. He posits that there is no bigger pandemic that what john Mahama had to oversee. According to Kevin, John Mahama had to inherit a power crises issue that started right under Jerry Rawlings. He explained that Rawlings, Kufuor and Atta Mills all failed to deal with this major problem. <\/p>\n
Kevin further added that it took a visionary leader like John Mahama to inherit Ghana\u2019s biggest problem and solve it before leaving office. According to Taylor, Ghana\u2019s power crises is far bigger than Covid-19. Kevin concluded that even with Covid, the Akufo-Addo led government received money from donors, something John Mahama didn\u2019t receive while overseeing the dumsor crises. \u201cDumsor is bigger than dumsor and you know that\u201d Kevin said.<\/p>\n
