{"id":1140292,"date":"2022-07-02T19:44:55","date_gmt":"2022-07-02T19:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/02\/bessa-simons-should-step-down-as-acting-musiga-president-ras-caleb\/"},"modified":"2022-07-02T19:44:55","modified_gmt":"2022-07-02T19:44:55","slug":"bessa-simons-should-step-down-as-acting-musiga-president-ras-caleb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/07\/02\/bessa-simons-should-step-down-as-acting-musiga-president-ras-caleb\/","title":{"rendered":"Bessa Simons should step down as Acting MUSIGA President \u2013 Ras Caleb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, the Chairman of the Greater Accra chapter of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has called on the Acting President of the union, Bessa Simons, to abdicate his position before their elections could be held.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Kwame Dadzie in an exclusive interview on\u00a0<strong>Ghana Weekend TV\u00a0<\/strong>on Monday, June 27, 2022, he said it was wrong for Bessa Simons, an aspirant for the presidency, to have been made the Acting President.<\/p>\n<p>Ras Caleb, who is also contesting the President position alongside Deborah Freeman, said there is still some dirt to be cleaned at MUSIGA before they could have their elections.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he is not being a litigant in the MUSIGA impasse, he said in proverbial terms: \u201cIf the car is faulty, and you insist on moving with it, it will leave you on the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ras Caleb also added that Bessa Simons and Samuel Kofi Agyemang, the accountant of the union, currently have a court case regarding an alleged forgery of signature to withdraw money belonging to the union.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to\u00a0<strong>the announcement by Bessa Simons on Ghana Weekend TV<\/strong>\u00a0that the voter\u2019s register is now ready and that they are just waiting for the National Elections Committee to set a date for the elections, he said the committee has no power to set the date.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ras, it is the National Executive Council that can set a date for the election, adding that elections can only be held in August or on a date earlier than six months or later than six months of the election month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBessa, step down. If you don\u2019t step down, we won\u2019t stop bugging you. We will not come to sit on a seat which is very dirty. There is no transparency and accountability in MUSIGA. Why is it like that?
