{"id":1137180,"date":"2022-06-29T07:24:51","date_gmt":"2022-06-29T07:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/06\/29\/girsal-coo-calls-for-more-funding-for-ghanas-agric-sector\/"},"modified":"2022-06-29T07:24:51","modified_gmt":"2022-06-29T07:24:51","slug":"girsal-coo-calls-for-more-funding-for-ghanas-agric-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/06\/29\/girsal-coo-calls-for-more-funding-for-ghanas-agric-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"GIRSAL COO calls for more funding for Ghana&#8217;s agric sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Ghana Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending Project (GIRSAL) is pushing for increased commitment aimed at revamping the country\u2019s agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<p>This according to the institution, will aid in the exportation of locally produced food and eliminate the dependence on imported food products.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the call by the COO of GIRSAL, Takyi Sraha who says the agric sector remains the backbone of the economy and must be adequately resourced.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking on the on-air-series of the <strong>Citi Business Festival<\/strong> on the topic \u201cImport Substitution in Agriculture\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the focus as a country is to promote agriculture support, [we need more] funding and technical support; then it will help improve the economy\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>GIRSAL Ltd is a non-banking financial institution established to de-risk agricultural financing and stimulate increased lending to the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAgriculture is the main driver of the economy. The promotion of agricultural commodities spurs exports and brings in foreign exchange and helps feed our population\u201d, Mr. Takyi Sraha added.<\/p>\n<p>Touching on GIRSAL\u2019s support for the agric value chain, Mr. Takyi Sraha said the outfit is positioned to assist farmers to increase yield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAs part of the strategic process for the next five years, we will prioritize the production of medium to large scale production of maize.
