– –<\/span> Azumah Nelson, the popular and retired Ghanaian boxing star, has revealed that he aspired to be President until boxing got in the way.<\/p>\n After nearly three decades of competition, the 68-year-old retired as one of Ghana\u2019s and Africa\u2019s most distinguished pugilists.<\/p>\n Nelson rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s, when he held the WBC featherweight and super featherweight belts.<\/p>\n – –<\/span> When asked about his boyhood, he said that he hoped to become President of Ghana when he was young.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you were a kid, you could say whatever you wanted. If I wasn\u2019t a boxer, I\u2019d like to be President. \u201cI expressed what I wanted to do,\u201d<\/em> he remarked on TV XYZ\u2019s Legends show.<\/p>\n – –<\/span> Nelson explained his passion in boxing by saying, \u201cMy dad liked boxing, but my grandfather won\u2019t let him go that far.\u201d When I was younger, my father took me to see a boxing event\u2026 When we arrived, there were two tiny boys fighting, although one was older than the other.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWhen they were finished, I noticed tears running down the young kid\u2019s eyes and I believed the larger one had deceived the small one, so I told my father I wanted to fight the older child, and he said alright.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cBut I insisted on fighting right away, not understanding there was a procedure to follow before fighting, but I was thinking if it\u2019s fighting, let\u2019s go fight now\u2026 I wished to fight for the little guy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n – –<\/span> – – Azumah Nelson, the popular and retired Ghanaian boxing star, has revealed that he aspired to be President until boxing got in the way.
