{"id":1132895,"date":"2022-06-24T10:08:43","date_gmt":"2022-06-24T10:08:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/06\/24\/8-out-of-10-ghanaians-have-changed-momo-transaction-behavior-study\/"},"modified":"2022-06-24T10:08:43","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T10:08:43","slug":"8-out-of-10-ghanaians-have-changed-momo-transaction-behavior-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/06\/24\/8-out-of-10-ghanaians-have-changed-momo-transaction-behavior-study\/","title":{"rendered":"8 out of 10 Ghanaians have changed MoMo transaction behavior \u2013 Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"521\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/momo-Copy-696x521.jpg\"   alt=\"Mobile Network Operators offering mobile money services\" title=\"momo (Copy)\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mobile Network Operators offering mobile money services<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Majority of Ghanaians are said to have changed their behaviour towards the electronic transfer of funds since the E-Levy kicked in back in May this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to a study, 83% of the populace felt compelled to do so in order to adjust to the limits introduced by the said levy as far as their livelihoods are concerned.<\/p>\n<p>These were part of research findings on the effect of the new tax slapped on citizens geared towards shoring up revenue for the government.<\/p>\n<p>The IMANI Digital Financial Services Research Project looked into the impact of the 1.5% tax on the coping mechanisms thereof.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo assess the impact of the e-levy on the use of digital financial services, we first assessed how often people use digital financial services accounts (such as mobile money) in a typical week and then asked further questions on how it has affected the volume of mobile money transactions they make.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/1656065323_732_image-45.png\" alt=\"E-Levy: 8 out of 10 Ghanaians have changed MoMo transaction behavior - Study\" class=\"wp-image-10032115411\" title=\"E-Levy: 8 out of 10 Ghanaians have changed MoMo transaction behavior - Study\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Highlights of the report revealed that out of the 83% who reassessed their electronic financial dealings nearly half of them reduced the rate at which they engaged in MoMo transactions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf this number, about 47% indicated that they had reduced the number of mobile money transactions by about 51% to 100%,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother 25% indicated that they had reduced their transactions by about 10% to 50%.
