{"id":1131700,"date":"2022-06-23T08:35:49","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T08:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/06\/23\/mills-economy-best-in-ghanas-history-ofosu-ampofo-politics\/"},"modified":"2022-06-23T08:35:49","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T08:35:49","slug":"mills-economy-best-in-ghanas-history-ofosu-ampofo-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/06\/23\/mills-economy-best-in-ghanas-history-ofosu-ampofo-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Mills\u2019 Economy Best In Ghana\u2019s History \u2013 Ofosu Ampofo | Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The National Chairman of the opposition\u00a0National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has reminded Ghanaians that his party, the NDC, has historically proven to be the best handlers of Ghana\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, he was addressing all 16 regional chairmen of the party at a retreat in Wa, in the Upper West Region, as part of the NDC internal reorganization effort toward election 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ampofo cited the period between 2009 -2012, when President Evans Atta Mills was President of Ghana with Dr. Kwabena Duffuor as Finance Minister, when the country\u2019s inflation rate remained in the single-digit brackets, as evidence that under an NDC government, the people of Ghana are always better off than under an NPP or any other government.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2022, Ghana\u2019s inflation reached 19.4%, the highest since 2009. Currently, inflation stands at 27%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe challenges that we are facing in our country now call for deeper reflection and experienced hands as a capable alternative\u201d, Ofosu Ampofo said, adding, \u201cWe cannot look beyond the NDC for that alternative\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In readiness for the 2024 general elections, the NDC began its internal reorganization process recently with a party membership registration drive that will lead to internal elections,  the election of executives for branches, constituencies, regions, and national positions, as well as its flag bearer for the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Ofosu Ampofo, who is running for reelection, may face stiff competition from others,  current general secretary Asiedu Nketiah while former President Mahama is most likely, if he runs again, to face a former bank of Ghana governor cum former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor who has been lacing his boots for a presidential primary run for a while now.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC party constitution stipulates that the party must elect its Presidential candidate 22 months ahead of the general elections as an opposition party.<\/p>\n<h3><strong\/><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"peace_black_text_4\">Source: ghanaweb.com<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"clear:both\">\n<tr>\n<td><span class=\"peace_red_text_1\">Disclaimer<\/span>: <span class=\"peace_ash_text_1\">Opinions expressed here are those of the writers and do not reflect those of Peacefmonline.com.
