Teacher Unions in Ghana are set to declare strike on 5th July, 2022 over non-payment of Cost of Living Allowance for teachers.<\/p>\n

This decision by the three teacher unions has come as a result of government\u2019s failure to meet the demands of the teachers. Salary Payment Voucher (popularly called Validation) for June, 2022 has confirmed that the government failed to pay teachers their cost of living allowance. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The three major teacher unions (The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concern Teachers Ghana (CCTGH ) earlier this month issued threats of embarking on indefinite strikes should government fail to pay the COLA to teachers by the end of 30th June 2022.<\/p>\n

“On the 5th July, 2022 there will be a joint press conference by teacher unions to declare a strike if government fails to meet our demands.” A communique from NEC meeting of the unions said.<\/p>\n

According to the teacher unions things and prices of goods have increased and hence it’s fair that the government give them Cost Of Living Allowance. <\/p>\n

Fair Wages and Salary Commission response to the threat by the unions is that stakeholders are yet to negotiate on the 2023 base pay. Hence it’s appropriate for all stakeholders to meet and discuss.<\/p>\n
