Todd Boehly<\/strong><\/p>\n New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has said UEFA\u2019s financial fair play rules are starting to get some teeth, and clubs will no longer be able to sign players \u201cat any price\u201d due to the risks of sanctions.<\/p>\n An investment group led by Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired Chelsea last month after former owner Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale following Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n Chelsea have been the most successful team in England in the period since Abramovich bought the club in 2003, thanks in large part to the Russian\u2019s investment.<\/p>\n \u201cFinancial fair play is starting to get some teeth and that will limit ability to acquire players at any price,\u201d Boehly said at the SuperReturn International Conference in Berlin.<\/p>\n \u201cUEFA takes it seriously and will continue to take it seriously. [More teeth] means financial penalties and disqualification from sporting competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n LaLiga announced last Wednesday it has filed a complaint to UEFA against Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City over alleged financial fair play violations.<\/p>\n LaLiga said \u201cthese clubs are continually breaching the current regulations\u201d of financial fair play.<\/p>\n Boehly, who is part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, said he was hoping to use an American model to develop football\u2019s financial potential and help Chelsea players build a better personal brand.<\/p>\n \u201cWe think the global footprint of this sport is really undeveloped,\u201d Boehly said. \u201cThere are four billion fans of European football. There are 170 million fans of NFL.
