Image credit: Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>   <!--  --><\/p>\n<p>Burnley have appointed former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany as manager.<\/p>\n<p>The Belgian, 36, was in charge at Anderlecht for two years before leaving by mutual consent in May, having led them to third the Belgian top flight.<\/p>\n<p>Burnley\u00a0sacked Sean Dyche\u00a0in April and replaced him with interim boss Mike Jackson, who was\u00a0unable to prevent relegation\u00a0from the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited by the challenge ahead,\u201d Kompany said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBurnley Football Club is a truly historic English side and it is an honour to be appointed first-team manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been impressed by the board\u2019s vision for the club which aligns with my own and I look forward to playing my part as we enter an important season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Belgium defender Kompany spent 11 years at City, where he won 10 major trophies, including four Premier League titles.<\/p>\n<p>His appointment comes amid Burnley\u2019s financial troubles. They received a \u00a365m loan with American finance company MSD Holdings, a\u00a0\u201csignificant proportion\u201d\u00a0of which now has to be repaid after falling out of the top flight.<\/p>\n<p>Burnley have not specified the length of Kompany\u2019s contract.<\/p>\n<p>The previous time the Clarets went down from the Premier League, in 2014-15, Dyche stayed in charge and led them to the Championship title the following season.<\/p>\n<h3>Kompany\u2019s managerial history<\/h3>\n<p>Kompany returned to boyhood club Anderlecht as player-manager in 2019, his first coaching job.<\/p>\n<p>However, he relinquished managerial duties after only four games to concentrate on playing, with the club having won only two points. They went on to finish eighth.<\/p>\n<p>Kompany retired from playing and took over as manager in August 2020, after which Anderlecht won 41, lost 19 and drew 30 of his 90 games.<\/p>\n<p>Anderlecht finished fourth in his first full season in charge and this season finished third, 11 points behind champions Club Bruges.<\/p>\n<p>Anderlecht chief executive Peter Verbeke said Kompany was an \u201cessential part\u201d in rebuilding the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe brought professionalism and expertise and has also been important in the development of young players,\u201d Verbeke said.<\/p>\n<p>Burnley chairman Alan Pace said: \u201cVincent is a proven leader and I\u2019ve been very impressed with his ideas for Burnley Football Club, his appetite to succeed and his focus on leading the club back to the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVincent has shown impressive credentials in leading one of Belgium\u2019s biggest teams back to European football and a cup final last season and we\u2019ve been excited by his philosophy, approach and ambition for the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            <!--  [embed]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=videoseries[\/embed]<!--\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>--><\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"GjDo4ArVl3U\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Badwam News on Adom TV (14-6-22)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GjDo4ArVl3U?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vincent Kompany has become Burnley&#8217;s new manager.
