Many have added their voices to the ongoing debate of the National Cathedral of Ghana which will cost as nothing less than 100 million dollars. Questions have been raised on whether the Cathedral is State sponsored or as it where private. These questions are on the back of Government releasing over 25 million cedis as seed capital for the construction of the National Cathedral. Some government appointees have always defended the release of funds by the State despite the hard times we find ourselves in.<\/p>\n

Ghanaians have raised concerns on whether the Cathedral is a priority especially in this economic crises. However, it seems to be a priority upon priorities for the President as some see it to be a debacle. The debate still continues and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has come out to repudiate the criticism on the government for contributing in the construction of the National Cathedral.<\/p>\n
According to the Finance Minister, the project is not a misplaced priority as it is being speculated by critics. He further on indicated that there is no perfect time for building such projects and this is the right time and government will ensure its success. He made this known in an interview earlier. He also spoke about the National Cathedral as a huge investment that will yield rippling dividends.<\/p>\n
\u2060\u201cAt any point in time when these buildings were built in Europe, was it ever the right time? How do we fund it will become the question. Is the executive mindful of the current situation? We shouldn\u2019t snuff out our religiousness or spirituality because we are poor. The Lord will understand if we put our widows mite in there\u201d, he said on state broadcaster, GTV on Sunday.\u2060<\/p>\n
\u2060He said the raging debate on the financial prudence and relevance of the National Cathedral is misguided.\u2060<\/p>\n
\u2060\u201cThat question being asked is that are we spending money from state coffers? Is that too much to do because we are politicizing it. Do we really want to stop it? That is going to be my question.\u201d\u2060<\/p>\n
\u2060In his conclusion, he pleaded on all critics to look further at the revenue that will be generated from the Cathedral after it becomes a success.
