Those shouting on top of their voices that Paul Adom-Otchere borrowed Togbe’s car for his wedding and the latter paid his fees as if to say because of that he shouldn’t interrogate Togbe’s actions and inactions should stop.<\/p>\n
Going by that argument, how do you expect him to treat a government that gave him a juicy appointment and those who have employed him? Is theirs too not kindness? Should he be ungrateful to them?\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kindness shown people shouldn’t make them less assertive when addressing issues they’re involved in. And, assertively interrogating public issues somebody who helped you is involved in shouldn’t be seen as ingratitude.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Let’s deal with the crux of the matter and leave the peripherals.<\/strong><\/p>\n Togbe refunded his ex-gratia which, is a good deed worth commending.\u00a0Paul and others think he’s being hypocritical, and, the government appointee cum journalist is arguing that Togbe attended few meeting but took salary and enjoyed other benefits so refunding his ex-gratia isn’t worth commending.<\/p>\n I disagree with Paul and all who think like him.\u00a0Togbe himself called the assignment a part-time job; he attended meetings his committee had which, he chaired.\u00a0 Could Paul give us the KPIs given Togbe that he didn’t deliver for which, he didn’t deserve his salary? And, if he didn’t deliver his KPIs, why did government pay him and even add this huge money as ex-gratia?<\/p>\n Again, Paul is unable to prove that Togbe took transportation or lodging allowances as some Council Members living outside Accra did. Togbe has denied that allegation.<\/p>\n Togbe’s action is worth appreciation regardless of how one looks at it. As a former member of the Council of State, at least, he’s observed the weaknesses of the institution and given us pointers for reforms to make it relevant.<\/p>\n He’s entitled to the salary paid him and the ex-gratia, choosing to refund the ex-gratia to assist government and the nation in hard times based on his conviction shouldn’t have led to this.\u00a0 You can make this argument without raising issues of Togbe’s car he borrowed for wedding and how he paid his fees for him.
