Angelina Jolie \u201csought to inflict harm\u201d on her former husband Brad Pitt when she sold her stake in their co-owned vineyard to a Russian oligarch, new legal documents have claimed.<\/p>\n
Pitt is suing his ex-wife for selling her stake in the French vineyard they bought together in 2008.<\/p>\n
He said her decision to sell her share to a Russian oligarch forced him into partnership with \u201ca stranger with poisonous associations and intentions\u201d.<\/p>\n
Jolie has not yet publicly commented.<\/p>\n
The couple purchased a controlling interest in Chateau Miraval SA, a French company comprising a home and vineyard in the south of France, in 2008.<\/p>\n
The A-list pair got married there six years later.<\/p>\n
Pitt says he and his former wife agreed not to sell their stakes in the venue without the permission of the other.<\/p>\n
In legal documents obtained by the PA news agency, it\u2019s alleged that Jolie sold her share to a Luxembourg-based spirits manufacturer controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler, without Pitt\u2019s knowledge.<\/p>\n
The lawsuit claims the sale helped launch a \u201chostile\u201d takeover of the wine business that the actor had \u201ccarefully built\u201d.<\/p>\n
Pitt\u2019s lawyers said that under his stewardship, the business had grown into a \u201cmultimillion-dollar international success story\u201d though Jolie had \u201ccontributed nothing\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the purported sale, Jolie sought to inflict harm on Pitt,\u201d according to the documents, which were filed last week.<\/p>\n
\u201cJolie knew and intended that Shefler and his affiliates would try to control the business Pitt had built and to undermine Pitt\u2019s investment in Miraval.\u201d<\/p>\n
It added that Shefler \u201chas gained notoriety through cut-throat business tactics and dubious professional associations\u201d and the association with him \u201cjeopardises the reputation of the brand Pitt so carefully built\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of this is the direct result of Jolie\u2019s unlawful and tortious conduct.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn violation of the parties\u2019 agreement, Jolie has sought to force Pitt into partnership with a stranger, and worse yet, a stranger with poisonous associations and intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Miraval estate is located in the village of Correns in south-eastern France, and was bought by the couple for around 25 million euros (\u00a321.3m).<\/p>\n
Pitt is said to have contributed 60% to the purchase price, with Jolie paying the remaining 40%.<\/p>\n
Lawyers also said the wine business at the property continues to flourish and \u201cthough she benefited from Miraval\u2019s success, Jolie had no involvement in these efforts\u201d.<\/p>\n
The actress filed for divorce in 2016.<\/p>\n
Jolie reportedly informed Pitt of her decision to sell to Shefler in January 2021, saying she had reached a \u201cpainful decision, with a heavy heart\u201d.\u00a0Lawyers for Pitt have requested a trial by jury.<\/p>\n
