<\/p>\n
Established in 1957, Okuapemman School was founded by late Barrister Charles Opoku Acheampong.<\/p>\n
The second cycle institution located in Akropong Akuapim in Ghana’s Eastern Region with the motto of the school being “Semper Primus” meaning Always First.<\/p>\n
Due to the establishment of the School in a traditional and royal area, past students of the school earned the name Adehye meaning Royals.<\/p>\n
The school was handed to Government after his demise.<\/p>\n
It has trained several prominent personalities with a few being highlighted below:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi<\/strong><\/p>\n Born in Kumasi at South Suntreso, Law Professor, Local Governance Expert and Politician, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi had his Ordinary Level education at Okuapemman School, and Advance Level Certificate at Opoku Ware School.<\/p>\n He enrolled at the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana for his BA degree between 1971 to 1974, and proceeded to Oxford University for Postgraduate Studies on a Rhodes Scholarship in 1975.<\/p>\n Prof. Ahwoi returned to the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana as a full time lecturer, before joining the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) under late J.J Rawlings.<\/p>\n From 1982 to 2001, he served in the capacities of Secretary for Local Government And Rural Development and became Minister for Local Government and Rural Development under the NDC when the PNDC transitioned from Military Rule to Democratic Rule in 1993.<\/p>\n The prominent politician is credited for his role in implementing decentralization policies when he was in charge of local governmence and rural development.<\/p>\n He also doubled as Minister of Foreign Affairs at some point and also established the Ministry of Planning, Regional and Economic Ccooperation before they lost power in the December 2000 elections.<\/p>\n Prof Ahwoi worked with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Director of Research when the party went into opposition from 2001 to 2009. He was also member of pressure group, Committee for Joint Action (CJA) till NDC won back power with HE. late President Mills in the 2008 elections.<\/p>\n He is a Governance lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management And Public Administration (GIMPA).<\/p>\n Dr. Afua Asabea Asare<\/strong><\/p>\n She is the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) since 2018.<\/p>\n An old student of Okuapemman School, she holds an LLB from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).<\/p>\n She has an MA in Positive Leadership and Strategy from IE University in Madrid, Spain and MSc in Organisational Development from the University of Capecoast (UCC). She also holds an MBA in International Business from Paris School of Business, an Advance Leadership Training Certificate, Strategic Marketing Management from the Harvard Business School, a Post-Graduate diploma in Communications Studies, University of Ghana, Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising from the Ghana Institute of Journaliam (GIJ) and a Doctor of Business Administration (Business Management) from the Swiss Business School and NIBS Ghana.<\/span><\/p>\n Dr. Asabea Asare sits on a number of boards to include the African Leadership Academy, South Africa, IE Advisory Board for IE University in Madrid and Ghana Telecom University College. Others are Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana, Advisory Board on Trade & Investment Support Institution of ITC, Ghana Exim Bank, Venture Capital Trust Fund and the Data Protection Agency, Ghana.<\/span><\/p>\n She has consulted and facilitated training for many organizations to include Volta River Authority, Coca Cola Company, United Nations Mission in Liberia, MTN, Star Assurance, Ghana Ports and Habours Authority and others.<\/span><\/p>\n She has worked as Special Advisor at the Ministry of Business Development and as General Manager and Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Telecom.<\/span><\/p>\n Dr. Asabea Asare is also an Adjunct Lecturer at GIMPA, Presbyterian University College, Ghana and Visiting lecturer at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).<\/span><\/p>\n Kwami Sefa Kayi<\/strong><\/p>\n Ace Broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi who was born to a Military father grew up in Burma Camp in Greater Accra but had his secondary education at Okuapemman School.<\/p>\n Kwami who is a board member of National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is also the founder of Kokrooko Charities which seeks to purchase 100 incubators for hospitals across the country to reduce infant mortality with pre-term babies.<\/p>\n He began his media journey at GBC as a guest artist after a year in the North where he did his national service. He also wrote for the PNP, Spectator and Mirror.<\/p>\n Whiles in media, Kwami was also into acting and appeared in movies and series to include the famous “Ultimate Paradise” alongside George Williams, Rama Brew and others.<\/p>\n The award winning broadcaster has done many courses both local and abroad, and has an Executive Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security from the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping and Training Centre.<\/p>\n He currently hosts the Morning Show “Kokrooko” on Peace FM and was also a presenter on Radio Gold prior to joining Peace FM in the year 2000.<\/p>\n Nii Addo Quaynor (Tinny)<\/strong><\/p>\n Born Nii Addo Quaynor, Tinny is well known for his uniqueness and breakthrough with rap in his native GA dialect.<\/p>\n The award winning artist who is an old student of Okuapemman School was the Entertainment Prefect during his time in secondary school.<\/p>\n The artist who featured on BET Cypher along with other acts in 2010 started entertainment at an early age, performing at the then popular teenage entertainment programs “Funworld” and “Kiddafest”. It was organized at the National Theatre and aired on Ghana Television (GTV).<\/p>\n Some of the many songs Tinny has churned out are Makola Kwakwe, Aletse Ogboo, Anaconda, Dzormo, Kaa Bu Ame, Ringtone, Blema Bii, Naomi, Who Born Dog, Tingele, Maamle, Obi do ba, Noko, Akwei Polo and others.<\/span><\/p>\n Israel Laryea<\/strong><\/p>\n Popular Broadcast Journalist, Editor and Programme Host, Israel Laryea is an alumnus of Okuapemman School where he had his Form One to Form Five Education, and then Accra Academy for his sixth form education. He also has a degree from the Ghana Institute of Management And Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra.<\/p>\n The Broadcast Journalist began his media journey at TV3 in 1999 where he became one of the famous news anchor and reported\/brought light on many issues in society.<\/p>\n He currently works with the Multimedia Group Limited where he worked with the late icon Komla Dumor.<\/p>\n Israel moderated the 2008 Ghana’s Presidential Debate with Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Ghana, Professor Ivan Addae Mensah.<\/p>\n He participated in the CNN Journalism Fellowship at the CNN Centre in Atlanta, USA and was finalist at the 13th CNN Multichoice African Journalists Awards in 2008.<\/p>\n Joshua Boye Doe (KalyJay)<\/strong><\/p>\n Joshua Buernortey Boye-Doe, popularly known as Kalyjay is a popular social media influencer and activist who has used his platform to champion various causes and highlight issues in society.<\/p>\n From Ada in the Greater Accra Region, Kalyjay currently has over 896,000 followers on Twitter and over 35.5k followers on Instagram. He is credited for initiating the Fix The Country social media campaign to highlight the various issues confronting Ghana and asking the Government to fix them. It transitioned into a public protest, and all this happened in the early part of the second term of Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo in last year 2021.<\/p>\n With his huge platform, he has garnered ambassadorial deals and influencing gigs working with notable brands and institutions.<\/p>\n Kalyjay has also contributed massively to the music industry in Ghana using his platform to promote artists and also hosts the Kalyjay Space where he has interviewed artistes to include Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Tiwa Savage, Akon amongst others.<\/p>\n A product of Okuapemman School where he had his senior high school education, he proceeded to the Ghana Institute of Journalism where he graduated in Public Relations.<\/p>\n These are but a few of the alumni highlighted above.
