IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr Akuffo Dampare over his strong-worded letter to the British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson. <\/p>\n

The NDC believes Dr Dampare should have used appropriate diplomatic channels to air his concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDC takes the considered\u00a0view that Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, should have raised his concerns about the British High Commissioner\u2019s tweet on Oliver Barker-Vormawor\u2019s latest arrest with Ghana\u2019s Foreign Minister through the Minister for the Interior for it to be addressed via the usual diplomatic channels,\u201d the party bemoaned.<\/p>\n

The IGP\u2019s letter was in connection with Madam Thompson\u2019s post on the arrest of #FixTheCountry convenor, Oliver Barker-Vormawor on May 17, 2022.<\/p>\n

Taking to her Twitter page, she wrote:\u00a0Oliver Barker Vormawor, convener of\u00a0#FixTheCountry<\/a>\u00a0movement, arrested again, I understand for a motoring offence on his way to court. I\u2019ll be interested to see where this goes\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

In the letter on May 31, 2022, Dr Dampare described Madam Thompson\u2019s comments as \u201cuninformed, biased, misguided and unwarranted\u201d.<\/p>\n

He argued the post is a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961, which enjoins diplomatic missions not to interfere with the internal affairs of their host country.<\/p>\n

But a statement signed by the General Secretary, Asiedu Nketia described the IGP\u2019s letter as regrettable and misguided.<\/p>\n

The statement added Dampare\u2019s response has the tendency to jeopardise the enviable cordial bilateral relations between Ghana and Britain.<\/p>\n

\u201cGhana and the UK have shared strong friendly bilateral relations and official communications must avoid tones and language which are considerably discourteous, offensive and needlessly provocative,\u201d parts of the statement added. <\/p>\n
