The Premier League, often known as the English Premier League (official name: The Football Association Premier League Limited), is the highest level of English football.<\/p>\n
It is contested by 20 clubs and runs on a relegation and promotion system with the English Football League (EFL).<\/p>\n
Seasons usually last from August to May, with each side playing a total of 38 games (playing all 19 other teams both at home and away). The majority of the games are held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.<\/p>\n
Following the decision of teams in the Football League First Division to break away from the Football League, which was formed in 1888, and take advantage of a lucrative television rights sale to Sky, the competition was renamed the FA Premier League on February 20, 1992.<\/p>\n
