{"id":1101138,"date":"2022-05-27T10:54:08","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T10:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/05\/27\/uba-ghana-celebrates-african-day\/"},"modified":"2022-05-27T10:54:08","modified_gmt":"2022-05-27T10:54:08","slug":"uba-ghana-celebrates-african-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/05\/27\/uba-ghana-celebrates-african-day\/","title":{"rendered":"UBA Ghana Celebrates African Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong><em>Some officials of UBA Ghana and some celebrities in a pose<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana, celebrated this year\u2019s Africa Day in commemoration of African unity with a touch of tasty cross-cultural African attires, local foods and drinks to tell the African story.<\/p>\n<p>UBA Ghana joined other subsidiaries to mark the historic day thereby positioning the bank as Africa\u2019s Global Bank.<\/p>\n<p>As part of activities to mark the day, the fourth edition of its annual UBA Africa Conversations was held at the Tony Elumelu Amphitheater at the UBA House in Lagos on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Established in May 2019 as a hallmark initiative in a series of celebrations for Africa Day, the conversations provide a platform for African and global audiences to connect with global thought leaders both in the private and public sectors, on their African journey, in a quest to change the narrative on Africa from desolate to successful.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s conversation was themed \u2018The Importance of Reflecting our African Culture in Global Success Stories\u2019 and underscores the tremendous shift in Africa\u2019s cultural influence \u2013 from Afrobeat to African films; Big African fashion labels and African authors; entertainment and culture.<\/p>\n<p>UBA\u2019s Group Deputy Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, stated that as Africa\u2019s global bank, UBA remains at the forefront of supporting businesses across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is from Africa that UBA Africa was set up. UBA has invested so much in Africa. We are in 20 African countries and 4 countries outside Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur focus has always been on driving investments into Africa, through conversations such as this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The event brought together a rich and diverse panel including African Movie Academy Award Winning Ghanaian Actress, Lydia Forson, who appreciated UBA\u2019s contribution towards changing the African narrative and spoke about how the African culture is now more widely accepted around the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great to see a bank like UBA being intentional about promoting Africa. Now, the world gets to see more of us, because, we have started to tell our own stories\u2019, she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Legendary African musician and songwriter, Youssou Madjigu\u00e8ne Ndour, who gave the keynote address at the event, highlighted the need for collaboration to boost the continent\u2019s fortunes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung people in Africa have a lot of questions and we have to listen to them and see how together we can be a solution for Africa. We need to understand that there is a lot to do.
