{"id":1097303,"date":"2022-05-24T06:36:45","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T06:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/05\/24\/long-term-investment-was-key-to-mtns-success-amid-covid\/"},"modified":"2022-05-24T06:36:45","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T06:36:45","slug":"long-term-investment-was-key-to-mtns-success-amid-covid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/05\/24\/long-term-investment-was-key-to-mtns-success-amid-covid\/","title":{"rendered":"Long-term investment was key to MTN&#8217;s success amid COVID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The MTN Group CEO, Ralph Mupita, has attributed long-term investments to his company\u2019s ability to thrive during the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery single year we put in enormous amounts of capital to sustain our networks and make sure our networks are high quality,\u201d he said in an interview with Citi TV\u2019s Bernard Avle.<\/p>\n<p>He said his company had been on this path for \u201cmany years of investing in the network and making sure we are doing 3G, 4G coverage, covering the rural areas and covering the urban areas,.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mupita also felt it was quite fortuitous that \u201cmany other market participants had taken the view that says the future of the global economy is going to be impacted in the digital economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw that and said that was a 10, 20, 30-year sectoral trend so we must invest in the trend,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>He noted, for example, that MTN had largely built its network sufficiently to enable people to go and work from home \u201cand therefore carry on the economic activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Mr. Mupita says MTN\u2019s standing during the pandemic was the culmination of multiple factors and not a short-term measure for profits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a confluence of things that gave us good results, but it wasn\u2019t a short-term thing.
