He has not reacted to the reports.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>But in a tweet, Senegalese President Sall said the player\u2019s \u201creligious convictions must be respected\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"fr\" dir=\"ltr\">Je soutiens Idrissa Gana Gueye. Ses convictions religieuses doivent \u00eatre respect\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Macky Sall (@Macky_Sall) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Macky_Sall\/status\/1526583844580773897?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The case has seen Valerie Pecresse, a candidate at the French presidential election last month, call for sanctions against the player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA refusal by Idrissa Gana Gueye to join the fight against homophobia could not remain without sanction!\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vpecresse\/status\/1526085097904021505\">she tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many Senegalese people are deeply religious, and those in same-sex relationships are often forced to hide their sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Homosexual acts are banned in the West African country.
