Maybe, just maybe, in the history of the\u00a0Vodafone Ghana Awards(VGMA)\u00a0\u00a0no winner of Artiste of the Year has been more estatic than KiDi.<\/p>\n
Last year, with a\u00a03Music Awards\u2019 ultimate prize under his belt, many believed it was a done deal and heavily tipped KiDi to win\u00a0VGMA\u00a0top most gong also but that didn\u2019t happen. His dreams of wearing two heavy weight belts were dashed when Gospel artiste Diana Hamilton beat him to it.<\/p>\n
But KiDi didn\u2019t give up, he dreamt again and this year, the\u00a0Touch It\u00a0hitmaker\u2019s desire finally happened at Ghana\u2019s \u2018music\u2019s biggest night\u2019.<\/p>\n
He emerged Artiste of the Year at the just ended\u00a0VGMA\u00a0held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Grand Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre(AICC).<\/p>\n
He beat stiff competition from Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene, King Promise and Joe M\u00e9ttle to win the night. Earlier this year, KiDi was adjudged\u00a03Music Awards\u2019 Artiste of the Year.<\/p>\n
Speaking with\u00a0Graphic \u00a0after his win,\u00a0KiDi said grabbing the\u00a0VGMA\u00a0Artiste of the Year is a dream come true.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrust me, I have been waiting for this day and finally it has happened. I have been eyeing this award for some time now and I can only say it is a dream come true.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou see, consistency is the key and I believe this is the right time to celebrate my hard work\u201d, he said. Asked what was going through his mind just before he was declared winner on the night, KiDi said he was a bit nervous even though he knew he had worked hard in the year under review.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cAnd when finally my name was called, I knew all the hard work has paid off. I felt great joy in my heart and the feeling is great\u201d he said<\/p>\n
In addition to Artiste of the Year, KiDi also picked Reggae\/Dancehall Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year and Afrobeats\/ Afro Pop Song of the Year.<\/p>\n
Other winners on the night include Ohemaa Mercy;Gosple\u2019 Song of the Year, Black Sherif; New Artiste of the Year and Hip Hop Song of the Year, Lyrical Joe; Best Rapper of the Year and Akwaboah; Highlife Artiste of the Year. The rest are Okyeame Kwame; Hiplife Song of the Year, Gyakie; Best Intertitional Collaboration, Fameye; Afro Pop Song of the Year and Stonebwoy; Reggae\/ Dancehall Artiste of the Year.<\/p>\n
The exciting night was sent to another level with performances from KiDi, Black Sherif, King Promise, Joe Mettle, Mr Drew, Sefa, Stonebwoy and Ohemaa Mercy. Joe Mettle\u2019s act with Niela was electrifying. The two engaged the audience throughout their performance.<\/p>\n
And it was something else when Black Sherif performed\u00a0Kwaku the Traveller. He had almost the whole auditorium on its feet singing along with him. Mr Drew\u2019s energetic performance with Hiplife artistes FBS was a delight to watch.<\/p>\n
MCs who steered the affairs of the night-Giovani Caleb, Sika Osei and Berla Mundi did a good job. They made the\u00a0VGMA\u2019s 23rd edition \u00a0a very event.<\/p>\n
