{"id":1083025,"date":"2022-05-10T18:45:15","date_gmt":"2022-05-10T18:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/05\/10\/momo-agents-association-makes-u-turn-on-e-levy-embraces-policy\/"},"modified":"2022-05-10T18:45:15","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T18:45:15","slug":"momo-agents-association-makes-u-turn-on-e-levy-embraces-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/05\/10\/momo-agents-association-makes-u-turn-on-e-levy-embraces-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"MoMo Agents association makes U-turn on E-levy; embraces policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana has changed its stance on the implementation of the Electronic transfer levy (E-Levy).<\/p>\n<p>The association is convinced this tax will help revive the country\u2019s \u2018ailing\u2019 economy.<\/p>\n<p>A few days after the implementation of the levy, some mobile money vendors complained that it has slowdown business, as consumers are rather withdrawing their funds.<\/p>\n<p>But in a twist of events, Secretary of the Mobile Money Agents Association, Evans Otumfuo at a meeting with PresidentNana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, said the association\u2019s earlier concerns over the tax have been resolved.<\/p>\n<p>He lauded President Akufo-Addo for the introduction of \u201cthis wonderful initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, we had some concerns when the tax was introduced earlier. But these have been addressed. We are ever willing to partner government to bring up more of such refreshing policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The association further appealed to the government to involve them in any policies and programs that affect their businesses directly and indirectly.<\/p>\n<p>Government commenced the implementation of the controversial levy on May 1, 2022, despite widespread condemnation of the tax policy.<\/p>\n<p>The levy was reduced from 1.75% to 1.5% after several protests led by the opposition party, its Members in Parliament, and some civil society groups.<\/p>\n<p>Government had hoped to rake in about GH\u00a27 billion from the collection of the 1.5% levy on mobile money and other electronic transactions, but the figure was revised downwards to about GH\u00a24 billion recently.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"JcTDplV-ZJ4\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mobile money vendors lament impact of e-levy on their business | Business Dashboard\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JcTDplV-ZJ4?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana has changed its stance on the implementation of the Electronic transfer levy (E-Levy).
