Antoine Semenyo, a Ghanaian striker for Bristol City, has stated that he aspires to emulate former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and exceed the latter’s record for Ghana.<\/p>\n
Gyan’s name will go down in Ghanaian football history as the country’s all-time leading scorer during his time with the Black Stars.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Happy FM, Semenyo, who has yet to play for the national team, said he aspires to be like Africa’s all-time leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup and leave a lasting legacy in the Black Stars’ colors.<\/p>\n
When asked who from the Black Stars team affected him, Semenyo answered, “I would pick Asamoah Gyan.”<\/p>\n
“As a young lad watching Ghana, he was clearly the role model for everyone. He was the goal scorer, and as a young player, I wanted to score goals as well, so every time I saw him score a goal, I thought to myself, “I want to be like him.”<\/p>\n
“So I’m aspiring to be like him, and possibly one day I’ll be better than him \u2013 time will tell.”<\/p>\n
Despite being solicited by England to play for them, the 22-year-old believes it is only proper to represent the country to which he belongs.<\/p>\n
“England has been here and there,” he remarked, “but Ghana is where I belong.”<\/p>\n
“Those [dark magic in the Black Stars] narratives don’t matter to me.” “All I want to do is play for Ghana and represent my homeland.”<\/p>\n
When the Black Stars begin their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications, Semenyo is likely to play a role.<\/p>\n
