Following the incident at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 29, FIFA punished Nigeria CHF150,000 (N63.9 million) when the country failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, according to Newsbreak.<\/strong><\/p>\n

FIFA has also ordered that the Super Eagles\u2019 next international encounter be played behind closed doors.<\/p>\n

FIFA claims that the violence violated Article 16 of its Disciplinary Committee.<\/p>\n

Recall that many fans encroached the pitch, destroying the technical area of the Moshood Abiola Stadium after Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against Ghana, which saw the Super Eagles crash out of their final playoffs for the 2022 World Cup on the away goal rule.<\/p>\n

FIFA\u2019s Disciplinary Committee, in their summary jurisdiction over incidents, delivered the sanctions in a letter updated on April 28.<\/p>\n

According to FIFA, Nigeria\u2019s fines were a result of failure to implement \u201cOrder and security at matches (failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play and throwing of objects).\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, FIFA allowed for an appeal.<\/p>\n

About 49 countries were either fined or warned by FIFA for misconduct during the qualifiers.<\/p>\n
