{"id":1070881,"date":"2022-04-29T12:11:36","date_gmt":"2022-04-29T12:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/29\/world-bank-provides-200-million-to-accelerate-ghanas-digital-transformation-agenda\/"},"modified":"2022-04-29T12:11:36","modified_gmt":"2022-04-29T12:11:36","slug":"world-bank-provides-200-million-to-accelerate-ghanas-digital-transformation-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/29\/world-bank-provides-200-million-to-accelerate-ghanas-digital-transformation-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank Provides $200 Million to Accelerate Ghana\u2019s Digital Transformation Agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Accra, April 29, GNA \u2014 The World Bank has approved $200 million to help Ghana to  increase access to broadband, enhance the efficiency and quality of selected digital public services, and strengthen the digital innovation ecosystem to create better jobs and economic opportunities.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1.21466050.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Digital is one of Ghana\u2019s best-performing sectors and grew on average by 19 percent per year between 2014 and 2020.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">&#8220;Today, Ghana is among the digital leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Digital Economy diagnostic conducted in 2020 identified key bottlenecks that needs to be removed to further accelerate Ghana&#8217;s digital transformation.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">A statement from the World Bank said building on previous investments, particularly through the ongoing World Bank-supported e-Transform Ghana project.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">It said the newly approved Ghana Digital Acceleration Project would support a regulatory shift to create an enabling environment for digital inclusion and innovation; streamline governance and delivery of public services; and facilitate smallholder engagement in data-driven digital agriculture.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cExpanding digital access and adoption, enhancing digital public service delivery, and promoting digitally enabled innovation are essential for Ghana\u2019s digital transformation, which will help drive a robust post-COVID-19 recovery,\u201d said\u202fPierre Laporte, World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cThe Ghana Digital Acceleration Project covers all these elements and will help advance the whole-of-government digital transformation agenda to accelerate adoption of digital technologies and innovation by key productive sectors, such as agriculture, to foster an economy-wide digital transformation.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The project will help strengthen the local digital entrepreneurship ecosystem and improve the survival and growth rate of digital technology-enabled startups.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">This goal will be achieved through supporting more effective innovation ecosystem coordination, better service provision by Entrepreneur Support Organizations, expansion of access to early-stage financing, and promotion of advanced digital innovation skills.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The Ghana Digital Acceleration Project is expected to increase access to mobile internet and broadband services of 6 million people by encouraging private sector investment in last-mile connectivity in underserved rural areas.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">It will also promote digital inclusion for women, persons with disabilities and rural communities through regulatory updates and investments among others.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">This will help to remove barriers to broadband and digital service access for Ghana&#8217;s lowest-income people and to close the regional digital gap.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cPublic sector digitization under this operation will continue the e-Transform project\u2019s digital public service delivery ongoing efforts, to help generate significant economic and development benefits for people, businesses and the government, such as increased efficiency gains and time savings for the society and the economy,\u201d\u202fsaid\u202fMaria Claudia Pachon,\u202fSenior Digital Development Specialist of the World Bank\u202fand\u202fTask Leader\u202fof the project.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cThe digitization of government services will also result in significant cost savings due to decreased travel and processing time to obtain services, as well as transaction costs such as manual entry errors, fraud, and corruption.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accra, April 29, GNA \u2014 The World Bank has approved $200 million to help Ghana to increase access to broadband, enhance the efficiency and quality of selected digital public services, and strengthen the digital innovation ecosystem to create better jobs and economic opportunities.
