{"id":1069052,"date":"2022-04-27T23:01:04","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T23:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/27\/dr-agumenu-calls-for-freeing-of-border-restrictions-with-ghana\/"},"modified":"2022-04-27T23:01:04","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T23:01:04","slug":"dr-agumenu-calls-for-freeing-of-border-restrictions-with-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/27\/dr-agumenu-calls-for-freeing-of-border-restrictions-with-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Agumenu calls for freeing of border restrictions with Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Accra, April 27, GNA \u2014 Dr Donald Agumenu, a Leadership and Project Management Expert, has urged the Togolese Government to open its border with Ghana to allow free movement of goods to facilitate trade as the country marks 62 years of independence today, April 27.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1.21465159.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on March 25, announced the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, including the reopening of land borders.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">However, Togo is yet to open its border to allow the free movement of goods between the two countries.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Dr Agumemu said trade between the two countries would be affected greatly should Togo continue to close its border to Ghana.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He noted that Covid-19 had created deeper political, trade, public health\u00a0 and technological barriers within member states, regional blocks and at the global front and stressed the need for a deeper bilateral engagement between the two countries as they shared values and culture.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Dr Agumenu urged Togo to re-examine the security situation and public health protocols at the entry points with Ghana and ease movement of people and goods, especially traders along the axis.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cFree movement of people,\u00a0 goods and services should be entrenched on the continent notwithstanding existing barriers,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Dr Agumenu congratulated Togo on its independence celebration and appealed to leaders of the country to, \u201ctake stock of the journey thus far and demystify what separates us as a continent and what joins us together as a people.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He also asked them to use the Day to reawaken the spirit of &#8220;grand family reunion of distinct families whose blood ties straddle between Togo and Ghana.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Togo got independence from France on 27th April, 1960.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The election that followed the next year produced Sylvanus Olympio as the country\u2019s first president.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accra, April 27, GNA \u2014 Dr Donald Agumenu, a Leadership and Project Management Expert, has urged the Togolese Government to open its border with Ghana to allow free movement of goods to facilitate trade as the country marks 62 years of independence today, April 27.
